Once upon a time... there was beer!

The origin of beer is most often associated with the Sumerians and the fertile region between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. According to history, they are the ones who invented beer. This beloved hopped beverage has held its honorable place for centuries — and yet it was discovered purely by chance.

Legend has it that someone forgot a container with grain mash outside their home. Rain fell into it, the sun shone on it, and the mash fermented. Another theory says bread combined with water and sunlight fermented. A third story attributes the origin of beer to bread dough forgotten in water. What do these theories have in common? In all cases, someone brave enough tasted the fermented mixture, discovering beer’s intoxicating effects. You can probably guess what happened next. The mixture was then deliberately fermented, and beer evolved into its current form.

Beer, or “kaš” as the Sumerians called it, remains to this day a well-known and beloved drink of many nations.
